The next litter pick along the canal is on Saturday, 30th August. Meet as usual in Lansdowne Park at 10:30am. Drinks afterwards at the Chestnut Inn.
The Canal & River Trust have received enough funding to refurbish an ex-British Waterways workboat, which will operate on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal.
The workboat will be used solely by volunteers, such as us, who will not only clean up litter and remove the graffiti, they will also manage the vegetation along the canal and create new habitats for wildlife.
Two members of the Worcester Canal Group have volunteered to train to skipper the boat. We also hope that the boat will encourage local schools and community groups to participate in clean-up sessions.
The Pennine is a class 131 workboat, built in 1976. The boat is being looked after by Ed Helps, a member of the South Wales & Severn Waterway Partnership at his boatyard, where skilled volunteers will be able to work on it.
